Description:

This is an early pre-WWII, Japanese Type 44, no-series cavalry carbine manufactured at Kokura Arsenal. The top of the receiver has the complete royal chrysanthemum followed by the Kanji markings for Type 44. The left side of the receiver is stamped with serial number (38499) followed by the four-intertwined cannonballs of the Kokura Arsenal. It is fitted with the standard short shaft rear sight graduated from 5-20 and the inverted "V" front sight. It has a straight handle bolt that has been renumbered to match the carbine and the bolt, extractor and cocking knob are all "in the white". It is fitted with a hardwood stock and front handguard with the finger grooves on the sides. The stock is fitted with the correct smooth steel buttplate with the butt trap mechanism and a cleaning rod inside. It is fitted with a folding bayonet and latch assembly, both numbered "887" on the housing and latch assembly. It comes with a WWII leather sling.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 90% of an arsenal refurbished blued finish overall with light but visible markings. The very fine stock and handguard have also been arsenal refurbished and now show only minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
