Documented Individual Shipped Pre-War Colt Ace Model Semi-Automatic Pistol with Factory Letter and Shooter Case

According to the included factory letter, this Colt Ace pistol was sent as a single item to Boston University "Attn: Maj. S.C. Thompson" on May 20, 1936. Major Thompson has not been positively identified, though may have been involved in the ROTC program at the University. Blade front and adjustable notch rear sights, with the two line address/patent markings and the Rampant Colt on the left side of the slide and "COLT <ACE> .22 LONG/RIFLE" on the right. The trigger guard is marked "60" and "4/VP", with a wide checkered hammer, short milled trigger, long grip safety, arched checkered mainspring housing and two-tone magazine. With a period brown leatherette "snakeskin" case containing the pistol, a small cleaning tool set and three boxes of ammunition.

ConditionFine, with 70% of the original blue finish, showing some bright gray patina on the grip straps and high edges, scattered scratches/takedown lines and some light spotting. A few dings are present on the front strap. The grips are good, with the left panel showing chipping around the upper screw and a crack running down from the lower screw. The case is fair, with the back panel detaching, loose dividers and scuffing/wear of the lining, and the boxes have been opened and taped shut. Mechanically excellent.
