Very Desirable 1941 Production U.S. Colt Model 1911A1 Semi-Automatic Pistol

This is a very fine example of an early blued finish U.S. Colt Model 1911A1 semi-automatic pistol that was manufactured in 1941 and inspected by the U.S. Ordnance inspector Colonel Robert Sears. These early pistols are very rare to find in this condition as they saw early, hard service use during WWII and almost all of the them were overhauled and reparkerized after the war. These were the last all blued Colt M1911A1 pistols produced in WWII. In early 1941, Colt switched to the new and more durable "parkerized" type finish which became the standard wartime finish. These Sears inspected Colt 1911A1s were produced in the serial number range of 723000-750300. The frame is stamped with a boxed "R.S." inspection marking of Col. Robert Sears, with "P" proof below the magazine catch and also on top of the slide. The top rear section of the frame (by the disconnect hole) is stamped with a small boxed "R.S." and capital "G" inspector markings. The frame is stamped "UNITED STATES PROPERTY/No727599/M1911A1 U.S ARMY". The left side of the slide has the standard two line/two block Colt patent and address markings with the Rampant Colt logo in the middle. The rear of the slide is correctly numbered "727/599" under the firing pin stop. It is fitted an all blued barrel marked with a "P" proof on the lug and "COLT 45 AUTO" on the lower left side. It has the blued components, a checkered wide spur hammer, checkered slide release and thumb safety, milled trigger with the checkered face, arched and checkered mainspring housing. The frame is fitted with a set of brown plastic Colt grips with the hollow backs with small reinforcing rings around the screw holes. It has a two-tone Colt type magazine and comes with a hard storage case.

ConditionVery fine with 80% plus of the original blue finish overall with edge and high spot wear overall. finish loss on the front grip strap, and browning on the mainspring housing. The grips are in excellent condition with nice distinct checkering on both sides, some minor wear across the tops of the checkering, and a few minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent. A very fine high condition desirable blued finish U.S. Colt M1911A1 pistol.
