Fine U.S. Springfield Armory Model 1911 Semi Automatic Pistol with Desirable/Scarce "N.R.A." Markings

This is a pre-WWI Model 1911 pistol was manufactured at Springfield Armory in the last contract production run in late 1915 and was later sold through the Director of Civilian Marksmanship (DCM) sales program. There were approximately 142 total M1911 pistols sold through the NRA/DCM program from late 1914 through June 1917 with the numbers broken out as 47 Colt pistols and 95 Springfield Armory pistols, making any of these pistols very scarce. The right side of the frame has been stamped with the small "N.R.A." markings to identify it as being sold through the DCM and not as a stolen pistol, just like they did with the 1903 Springfield rifles. The right side of the slide has the standard Springfield "Eagle and Shield" motif located behind the ejection port and is marked "MODEL OF 1911.U.S.ARMY." in front of the ejection port. The left side has a three-line, two-block marking "PATENTED APR. 20,1897/SEPT. 9, 1902. DEC. 19,1905. FEB.14,1911/COLT'S PT. F.A.MFG.CO" followed by "SPRINGFIELD ARMORY/U.S.A". The Ordnance Corps shell and flame insignia is located behind the slide serrations. The left front side of the frame is marked "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" with the small Ordnance shell and flame stamped above the magazine release. The right side of the frame has the serial number "125618" and behind the slide stop hole is the small "N.R.A." markings. It is fitted with an early Springfield Armory type barrel that is stamped with a standing "P" on the left side of the barrel lug and a standing "S" on the right side. The pistol has a distinctive Springfield Armory dull blue finish, large diamond panels around the stock screws with the small "S" on various parts including on the barrel bushing and slide stop. It is equipped with the long hammer spur and the short horn on the grip safety, early checkered thumb safety, and checkered slide stop. It is complete with an original Springfield Armory, half-tone, lanyard loop magazine.

ConditionFine condition with 60% plus of the original blue finish showing even wear on the high spots overall. The grip straps, sides of the slide and thumb safety all show additionally thinning and slight oxidation of the blue finish. The grips are fine condition with nice distinct checkering on the sides mixed with handling marks. This is a very fine, straight pre-WWI Springfield Armory N.R.A. marked pistols that shows even honest wear overall from general use.
