This is an excellent example of a late WWII Model 1903A4 sniper rifle manufactured by the Remington Arms Company in the rare "Z" prefix serial number in the last block of serial numbers. There were only approximately 2,290 manufactured in total. The receiver is marked on the left side of "U.S./REMINGTON/MODEL 03A3", and the serial number "Z40001594" is on the right side. It has the correct square end "REDFIELD" marked scope base. It is fitted with the correct blued, 3/4 inch Redfield scope rings with a late WWII Weaver M73B1 marked sniper scope. The scope has the standard crosshair reticle, and the nomenclature plate is marked "TELESCOPE, M73B1/PAT. PATD-PATS-PEND/W.R. WEAVER CO./EL Paso Tx.". Below the nomenclature plate it is roll-marked "TELESCOPE NO. 21048". The barrel is marked "R.A. 9-43", and no front sight base was installed. It has the correct all blued components and the correct 1903A4 Remington sniper bolt marked with an "R" on the underside. It is fitted with a correct late production 1903A4 scant grip wartime production walnut stock and handguard that is marked with a small "K" in the cutoff. The stock is stamped on the left side with the correct Remington Arms "RA/Ordnance Crossed-cannon proof/FJA" proof of the US Ordnance inspector. It has a single circled "P" proof in the grip area and the correct small Remington sub-inspector proofs in front of the trigger guard. It has the original green parkerized finish on the barrel, receiver, and scope base, with the remaining components all have a blued finish. The stock and handguard have all oil finish, and the scope has the original commercial blued finish. It is complete with a WWII brown web sling.
