Description:

This is a very rare example of a fully documented original S&W M13 lightweight revolver designated the "aircrewman" revolver by the USAF. This example is accompanied by a S&W factory letter dated Nov 2006 that verifies this revolver as being shipped under a USAF contract in Sept 1954 to the Norton Air Base in San Bernadino CA. Original examples are extremely rare as most were destroyed and or altered by either Smith and Wesson or the U.S. Government. The top strap of this revolver is marked "REVOLVER, LIGHTWEIGHT, M13" (with no space between LIGHT and WEIGHT) and down the back strap it is roll marked "PROPERTY OF THE U.S. AIR FORCE". The barrel is marked "SMITH & WESSON" on the left side and "38 SPL. CTG." on the right side. The right side of the frame has the standard S&W patent markings and monogram. The left side of the frame below the cylinder has a small "P" firing proof. The butt is stamped with the full serial number, and matching serial number on the back of the cylinder and underside of the barrel. The frame recess and back side of the cylinder crane are both stamped with assembly number "34038". This revolver features a four screw frame with the flat latch cylinder release, anodized alloy frame and cylinder, blue steel barrel and casehardened hammer and trigger. The right grip is stamped on the back side with "365822". Please note that this is not one of the earlier Aircrewman revolvers as it does not have the traditional "A.F.N.O./serial number" on the butt. The revolver is complete with an original U.S.A.F. black leather shoulder holster and nylon lanyard. The holster is embossed on the front flap "U.S.A.F." and the front edge of the holster is also stamped "55D3513".

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 95% of the combination blue/anodized aluminum finishes showing only edge and high spot wear overall with thinning or finish loss on the face and front edges of the cylinder from handling and maybe light service use. The hammer and trigger both retain 97% vivid case colors. The grips are excellent and only show minor handling marks. The holster is excellent with most of its black finish overall and tight white stitching and clear sharp markings. A very rare example of an original and factory documented M13 Aircrewman lightweight revolver.
