Description:

This revolver was patented by Thomas Kerslake Baker. He was awarded British Registered Design No. 3230 on April 24, 1852, for his long spur hammer. The long spur hammer is casehardened and is marked "BAKERS PATENT" (faint). The top of the frame is marked "REGISTERED/APRIL 24 1852." The frame has a safety catch flanked by wedges of engraved floral scrollwork on the left side and "T.K. BAKER/LONDON" marked in a foliate panel on the right side. The back strap has the serial number ("No. 1625.") marked in a foliate panel. Additional scrollwork is found on the buttcap and lower section of the back strap. The top of the hammer is engraved as well. British proofs are found on the bottom barrel flat and on the rear of the cylinder between each chamber. The nipple shield has a fine knurled forward edge. Fitted with two-piece finely checkered grips. The partitioned oak case has a Baker paper label on the interior of the lid and contains an oiler, a reproduction powder flask, percussion cap tin for caps "made expressly for Baker's pt. repeating pistol," bullet mold with one arm forming a ramrod (repaired), brass ramrod with worm and tool. The exterior of the lid has a blank circular brass escutcheon.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The revolver retains 95% plus bright original high polished blue finish with the balance a smooth gray patina. The hammer retains 97% original case colors. The grips are also excellent with crisp checkering overall. Mechanically excellent. The case is very fine showing high spot wear on the lining and some minor handling/storage marks. Most of the fine original label remains.
