Description:

These revolvers were manufactured by many Birmingham makers in the 1850s and 1860s. It features: a blade front sight, "ASKEY. BEDALE" on top of the barrel, Birmingham proofmarks, Kerr style loading lever, cylinder numbered "1" through "5," hammer stop and safety pins, attractive floral scrollwork engraving, and ebony grips with diamond checkering and silver pins. Interestingly, a rear sight was not cut or fitted above the hammer slot. Isaac Askey's period advertisements indicated he established his shop in 1825 and was active into at least the 1870s. The case has a reproduction Askey trade label, another label discussing James Boswell's attendance of Shakespeare's Jubliee in September 1769, an oiler, bottle, small brush, powder flask, key, unmarked dual cavity bullet mold, ebony handle screwdriver, "Saloon Cartridges" tin, and lead balls.

Rating Definition:

Fine as period replated. 80% plus of the nickel plating remains. There are filing marks and scratches visible and some patches of minor pitting and oxidation. The loading lever is a smooth brown. The barrel key retains 25% of the niter blue. The grips are very good and have a few small pins absent, slight chip on the right side at the toe, replacement screw, and moderate wear on the washers. Mechanically fine. Some of the markings are faint. The powder flask mechanism is broken, but most of the accessories are fine. The case is very good with moderate storage wear, some tearing and fading of the lining, and a loose divider.
