Description:

Produced between 1901 and 1915, with a total production of only several thousand. Several features of this arms were integrated in Mossberg's Brownie pistol. Held with the barrel group emerging from the top of the hand and the index and ring fingers on either side of the firing mechanism, which is squeezed with the middle finger to fire. Though fitting comfortably in the hand, aiming at a target beyond contact distance requires the hyperextension of the wrist or keeping the pistol down at hip level. The left side of the pistol is marked "UNIQUE/ C.S. SHATUCK ARMS CO./ HATFIELD, MASS." This is the correct markings for the pistol, as the toolmaker misspelled Shattuck with a single "t" on the marking die. The steel barrel group tips down for loading and unloading, and there is an ejection rod stored in a compartment in the right side of the frame. All nickel finish, except for the blue finished barrel latch. Matching serial number on the frame and barrel group.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The pistol retains 60% of the original nickel finish with scattered minor flaking and wear. The barrel latch retains approximately 50% of the original bright blue finish mixed with smooth dark patina. The markings are crisp and clear. The mechanics are excellent.
