Description:

Manufactured in 1883. The two-line address/King's improvement patent dates are marked on the top barrel flat ahead of the rear sight, and "32 CAL." is at the breech. The upper tang is marked "MODEL 1873." The serial is marked on the lower tang, and the bottom of the brass cartridge elevator is marked "32 CAL." It has a dovetailed blade front sight, adjustable buckhorn sporting rear sight, blue finish with casehardened hammer, lever and buttplate; and is mounted with a smooth walnut forearm with a metal forend cap and straight grip stock with a shotgun buttplate. The accompanying Cody Museum serial number verification letter shows the rifle configuration, 32 caliber octagon barrel, plain trigger and that it was shipped in order number 8270 on October 19, 1883. It does not confirm the shotgun butt stock.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The rifle retains 60% original blue finish showing edge and high point wear, thinning and some minor oxidation on the underside, front of the receiver. 40% of the original niter blue remains on the loading gate. Much of the faded original case colors remain on the hammer, and the lever and buttplate have a smooth mottled gray patina. The wood is good with some scattered minor dents, dings and scratches. There is a small area of age cracking on the left side of the stock. The markings are clear. The action is excellent.
