Description:

This fantastically engraved revolver features near full coverage floral and scroll engraving on a contrasting matte background with delicate fine line shading, tight detail, and eye catching contrast. The only visible areas not featuring fine engraving are the cylinder flutes and the top of the fore strap. The consignor states that according to noted Smith & Wesson expert Roy Jinks, the revolver was shipped in 1969, and per noted engraving historian and Master Engraver Roger Bleile the engraving was performed by Hiroo Sugaya. Sugaya was a European trained master engraver, and was known for his ability to finely engrave stainless steel (significantly more difficult than standard carbon steel). Though the engraving is unsigned it bares a striking resemblance to known Sugaya engraved Model 60 revolvers, and it is known that Sugaya was contracted by distributor REI to engrave at least five such revolvers in 1969. Features a serrated ramp blade front and frame notch rear sights, standard barrel and frame markings, checkered hammer, and a serrated trigger. Fitted with checkered grips. Includes the original S&W blue box, cleaning tools, and papers. The special features section of the end label is marked "ENGRAVED JRD".

Rating Definition:

Excellent overall. The engraving is sharp and flawlessly executed with clear, distinct markings, and minimal light handling marks. The grips have sharp checkering and just a few light marks. Mechanically excellent. The box is fine with some mild corner and edge wear. A prime example of a master's skill in the art of engraving.
