Description:

A refinement of the World War One era stahlhelm, the 1935 introduced an improved adjustable webbing system, trimmed down the skirt and visor to reduce weight, and replaced the obsolete armor mounting lugs with a low profile grommeted vent system. Also introduced for the 1935 was the decal-based branch identification, with a branch-specific decal on the right side (in this case the black and silver "sig rune" SS shield) and a red, white and black national shield for everyone on the left. The national shield was retired in 1940 to speed production, with the branch decal eliminated later for the same reason. This particular example bears both decals, and appears to have been painted multiple times, with a dark green as the final layer and hints of khaki tan (often associated with helmets resprayed for use in Africa) visible in the flakes. The interior is stamped "4465" and "ET 34" inside the skirt, and hand-marked "C6312-52900-04203/M. Golucci" on the underside of the visor.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The paint shows scattered flaking, chiefly visible around the top of the crown, with brown steel visible around the rim and mild handling marks. The leather is in rough condition, with cracking, tearing and staining, as well as a stitched together break in the chinstrap. The decals are very good, with some light flaking and brown spots overall and a larger amount of loss on the National shield. Golucci has not been positively identified.
