Description:

The cavalryman is armed with a Volcanic pocket pistol and a Model 1840 or 1860 saber. There are gold high lights added to his buttons and sword handle, blue tinting on the pans, and some slight blush added to his cheeks. Under the picture is a sheet marked "GENUINE/UNION CASE,/IMPROVED./Fine Gilt and Burnished/Hinge./Scovill Mf'g Co." Images of mounted soldiers are very rare, especially compared to studio portraits, and would have required a very well behaved horse to avoid movement and the resulting blur. Men armed with Volcanic pistols in portraits are also incredibly rare given the limited number produced.

Rating Definition:

Very fine overall with mild storage wear. The case has some chipping at the corners. This would be an excellent addition to any Civil War collection and also well-suited for display with a Volcanic pocket pistol.
