This very fine Winchester Deluxe Model 1892 Fancy Lever Action Rifle was manufactured in 1912. This special order Model 1892 Takedown Rifle features a part round/part octagon barrel and "Extra Finish" walnut pistol grip stock and forearm with factory checkering. The checkering is the simplified pattern that replaced "Style H" factory checkering as the least expensive pattern c. 1901. The pistol grip has a black, hard rubber, cap embossed "WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO.". The barrel has a "Winchester Express" front sight with colored bead and a buckhorn, sporting style, rear sight with screw-adjustable center-piece. The left barrel flat is roll-stamped: "MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO./NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A. PATENTED OCTOBER 14. 1884." in two lines ahead of the rear sight. The caliber designation: "25-20 W.C.F." is roll-stamped on the left barrel flat ahead of the takedown collar. Winchester oval "W/P" proofmarks are stamped on the top barrel flat and top of the receiver. The upper receiver tang is roll-stamped with the third style model designation: "MODEL 1892/-WINCHESTER-/TRADE MARK REG IN US PAT. OFF." in three lines. The serial number, "670840," is roll-stamped across the bottom of the receiver. The barrel, magazine, forearm cap, receiver, bolt, loading gate and crescent buttplate have the Winchester charcoal blue finish. The hammer and loading lever are color casehardened.

Very fine. 90% of the blue is present on the barrel and full-length magazine. The blue on the magazine band and forearm cap is thin, and the takedown collar has a silver-gray patina. The receiver and bolt have 85% of the original blue finish. The finish on the bolt is thin and the sides of the receiver have scattered, light scratches and handling marks. The crescent buttplate has 75% of the blue finish with wear on the heel and toe. The hammer and lever retain 85% of the faded color casehardened finish. The select, "Extra Finish" pistol grip stock and forearm are in very good condition; about 85% of the high polish finish remains. There are scattered light handling marks on the stock and forearm. The checkered panels are sharp. This is a very fine example of a Special Order Winchester Deluxe Model 1892 Takedown Lever Action Rifle which is seldom encountered in any condition as these are rare!
