Manufactured in 1875 and subsequently replated either by the factory or a Colt retailer. It is a first model with the shorter cylinder flutes and visible cylinder stops. It also has a distinct "COLT NEW 38" etched panel on the left side of the barrel, the two-line address flanked by Maltese crosses on top, standard blade and groove sights, and matching serial numbers on the barrel, cylinder, and grip frame. The Colt New Line revolvers were debuted alongside the famous Colt Single Action Army. While a SAA would have been hard to conceal, the New Lines would have easily fit in a coat pocket and allowed for discretion. Given their purpose, very few New Line revolvers remain in exceptional condition. Even among those that due, this revolver stands out in part due to its attractive mother of pearl grips.
