Description:

This is a 1943 dated WWII British Enfield No. 4 MK 1(T) sniper rifle with an original and matching No. 32 MKII scope and mount. These rifles were originally developed in the late 1930s and became the standard WWII British sniper rifle that was used until the early 1960s. The receiver is marked "No. 4 Mk. I/T", and the socket is marked "M47C/1943/ENGLAND/AV3699/TR/43". It has its matching No. 32 MKII sniper scope marked "TEL. SIG/No.32 Mk.II/O.S. 1650A/1944 No 9085". The scope has the standard British post and crosshair reticle pattern. The mount is stamped with "N92" maker's mark and the rear of the mount is stamped with the matching serial number "AV3699". The top and bottom half of the scope rings are stamped "22" and "23" respectively. It has its correct matching numbered bolt. The buttstock is stamped with a faint "S51" on the underside, behind the pistol grip area, and a faint "9085" on top behind the receiver. The top of the comb on the buttstock is fitted with an original cheekpiece held on with two wooden screws. The forestock is stamped with serial number 15L7927 with the Canadian acceptance proofs. This sniper rifle is complete with a No.15 MkI green wooden storage chest, one original box magazine, a set of original WWII British leather lens covers and a WWI era leather sling stamped "DUNCAN A.K.S". There were approximately 26,000 of these rifles manufactured during WWII; most saw heavy use during the war, and the balance were given to other countries in the United Kingdom after the war. Only a couple hundred were ever imported in the 1960s by Interarms.

Rating Definition:

Very fine condition overall with 90% of the wartime black finish still remaining on the exposed metal with edge and high spot wear overall. The buttstock and forestock are both in very good condition with minimal handling marks. The buttstock has been sanded overall and the proofmarks are faint. The forestock is also in fine condition with minimal handling marks and is a replacement. The scope retains 80% of its wartime finish with the black paint flaking off the front and rear ends as well as the adjustment block in the center. The optics are clear and sharp. The wooden storage box is also in fine condition with 90% of its green paint showing wear on the edges and corners. A nice looking mostly all original WWII British sniper rig.
