Description:

This is an exceptional original example of a very early pre-war large ring "transitional" Mauser Model 1896 broomhandle semi-automatic pistol with the very desirable Von-Lengerke & Detmold import markings that has its original matching walnut shoulder stock. These pistols were produced in the early 1900s with serial number of this model found in the correct range for transitional Mauser pistol. This range was where the Mauser factory was changing from the early Cone Hammer pistols to the next variation termed the Large Ring. This pistol is even more desirable in that it was imported and marked by the New York import house of Von Lengerke and Detmold, and it is accompanied by its original matching numbered combination walnut shoulder stock/holster. At this time the Mauser factory was producing probably some of the best Model 1896 pistol it ever produced. The barrel extension is marked with "WAFFENFABRIK/MAUSER/OBERNDORF/A/N" with the left side having the serial number and the right side with a early Mauser "Antler" firing proof. The underside of the barrel has several small letter proofs, and the left side milled panel is marked "VON LENGERKE/& DETMOLD/NEW-YORK". This model has the correct large ring hammer, non-reinforced barrel/chamber area, long extractor, dovetailed firing pin retainer, deep milled frame panels with the 22 groove walnut grips, both correctly numbered (matching) on the back sides. It has the early tangent rear sight (numbered underneath) graduated from 50-1000 with a fixed front sight. These are features which are only found on these early pre-war pistols. It is complete with the original lanyard ring on the bottom of the grip frame.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 97% of the original blue finish overall with slight blue loss visible on the lower front edge of the frame, a small spot directly behind the floor plate and rear strap where the stock attaches. It has matching numbers on the various parts. The stock is also in excellent condition with only minor light handling marks on the sides with the hinge assembly having 98% of its blue finish with 60% of the blue on the attaching iron. A very high grade, original Mauser Model 1896 Broomhandle semi-automatic pistol.
