World War II Mauser Model G41(M) Semi-Automatic Rifle with Sling

This is a representative example of am early WWII German G-41(M) rifle manufactured by the Mauser factory. These rifles were produced in 1941/42 in response to the request by the German Weapons office for a semi-automatic rifle. These rifles used the early "Bang" gas trap gas system that utilizes a muzzle cone on the end of the barrel to trap gas and cycle the action in a semi-automatic mode. Initially, the action had to be charged using a 98K style bolt action function, instead of the traditional sliding cocking handle, which was then disengaged and the rifle functions in a normal gas-operated style using the gas trapped in the muzzle cone to actually cycle the operating rod located under the barrel. The receiver is marked on top with the small "Eagle 135" proof over "G-41(M) over 1942," and the actual serial number of the rifle is stamped on the left side of the rear sight base. It is fitted with a walnut stock with a cupped steel butt plate and short walnut top handguard. The underside of the buttstock is stamped with the matching serial number "8105" over an "Eagle 359" Waffenamt proof, with the later proof also stamped in the pistol grip area and on the left side flat. These are a very scarce today as they were produced in very small numbers early on in WWII when the Mauser factory was using the time consuming all machined parts and components. Most of these rifles saw considerable use throughout the war, especially on the eastern front.

ConditionGood as incomplete with 40% plus of the blue finish still remaining overall with general even wear and blue loss overall. The stock and handguard are fine overall showing a nice original medium brown color with numerous light scratches, pressure dents and handling marks overall. It is missing the entire bolt assembly inside the receiver, and the gas trap is mismatched.
