This is a very fine example of a deluxe version of the Winchester Model 1894 takedown rifle. The accompanying factory letter states the rifle had an octagon barrel in .38-55 and plain trigger when it was received in the warehouse on October 4, 1905 and shipped the same day. The serial number was applied for on September 30, 1905. The top barrel flat is marked with the two-line address/patent marking ahead of the rear sight and "38-55" at the breech and is fitted with a Marble Sheard dovetail beaded blade front sight and an elevation adjustable rear sight. The upper tang is fitted with a folding peep sight. The Winchester factory oval proof is marked on the barrel and receiver at the breech. The serial number is on the bottom of the receiver. The left side of the lower tang is marked "22 90XXX". The hammer, lever and crescent buttplate are casehardened, and the remaining surfaces are blue. Mounted with a checkered walnut forearm and pistol grip stock. The pistol grip has a hard rubber Winchester cap.
Very fine. The rifle retains 85% original blue finish showing thinning to a brown. There is limited minor pitting on the barrel. The loading gate retains 90% of the bright original nitre blue. The wood is also very fine with a slight upward bend visible at the wrist, some minor pressure dents and scratches and a few blemishes in the overall crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
