The tanegashima arquebuses were the primary firearms in use in Japan from the arrival of firearms middle of the 16th century until the entry of Commodore Perry's fleet and the adoption of more modern firearms in 1854. Many tanegashima are still used in ceremonies and reenactments in Japan today. This attractive example has blade and notch sights, silver floral and bird inlays along most of the barrel, and some floral accents on the smooth hardwood stock.

Rating Definition:

Very good with dark patina along the barrel, fairly bright brass fittings, minor marks and scratches, and a small sliver of wood absent above the serpentine.
