Description:

Manufactured in 1913. This scarce rifle has a special order semi-deluxe pistol grip stock and forearm with factory checkered panels. The rifle has a full-octagon barrel with full-length magazine. The barrel has a sporting style front sight with nickel-silver blade and a flat top, sporting style, rear sight. A Marbles "Flexible Rear Sight" with peep is mounted on the receiver tang. The barrel, magazine, forearm cap, bolt, trigger and crescent buttplate have the Winchester charcoal blue finish. The hammer and lever are color casehardened. The stock and forearm are straight grain American walnut with the Winchester high polish "Extra Finish" found on rifles with special order features. The pistol grip has a black, hard rubber cap embossed "WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO." The left barrel flat is roll-stamped "MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO./NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A. PATENTED OCTOBER 14. 1884." in two-lines ahead of the rear sight. The caliber designation "25-20 W.C.F." is roll-stamped on the left barrel flat just ahead of the receiver. The serial number is roll-stamped across the bottom of the receiver.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. 97% of the original blue finish is present on the barrel, magazine tube, forearm cap and bolt. The contact points on the bottom and lower edges of the receiver show handling wear. 70% of the original blue remains on the receiver with the bottom and forward edge having faded to a blue-gray patina. There is also finish wear on the upper edges of the receiver. The contact points of the crescent buttplate show edge wear and the buttplate retains 80% of the blue finish. The case colors on the hammer and lever are faded and about 80% remain. The fine buttstock and forearm are revarnished with sharp checkering. This is a very fine example of a scarce Winchester Model 1892 Fancy Sporting Rifle with semi-deluxe stock and forearm.
