Very Fine Documented Winchester Model 1886 Takedown Lever Action Rifle in Desirable 45-90 with Factory Letter

Manufactured in 1898. The top barrel flat is marked with the two-line address ahead of the rear sight and "45-90 W.C.F." at the breech. The upper tang is marked "--MODEL 1886--" The 1884 and 1885 patent dates are marked on the lower tang directly behind the trigger, and the serial number is at the end. It has a dovetailed German silver blade front sight and adjustable buckhorn rear sight, blue finish with casehardened hammer, trigger, lever and buttplate, full length magazine, and mounted with a smooth walnut forearm with steel forend cap and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate. The accompanying factory letter verifies the takedown rifle configuration, caliber, octagon barrel, plain trigger, that the serial number was applied for on May 19, 1898, that it was received in the warehouse on July 23, 1898, and shipped to order number 39097 on September 22, 1899.

ConditionVery fine with 85% bright original high polish blue finish remaining, showing some high point wear, some flaking and thinning visible on the left side of receiver and on the bright original blue takedown ring. 60% of the bright original nitre blue remains on the loading gate. The wood has an added light coat of protective varnish some time ago and remains very fine with some scattered minor dents and dings. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is excellent.
