Description:

Barbar family gunsmiths were active in London from around 1717 to 1800. The lock plate is marked "BARBAR", and the barrel has two English "cross scepter" proofmarks on the left and "LONDON" on top. The multi-stage barrel has a 1 1/8 inch belled muzzle. The bore is estimated at 12 gauge.

Rating Definition:

Fine with dark attractively aged patina on the brass, bright fire blue finish on the refinished/repaired cock (weld visible in center portion of neck), dark brown patina on most of the remaining iron, and some minor marks. The stock is also fine and has some cracking in the forend, crisp checkering, several minor dents, and some scrapes. Mechanically excellent.
