Manufactured around 1876-1877. Round barrels were rare on Sharps aside from the Business and Hunter rifles and the carbines. Only 53 Sharps Model 1874 Sporting rifles were manufactured with round barrels. Of those, only 22 were manufactured at Bridgeport like this example. It has a windgauge globe front sight, notch/folding ladder rear sight, the "Old Reliable" and one-line Bridgeport address on top ahead of the rear sight, "CAL. 40 1 1/16" on the left, standard two-line patent marking on the frame, double set triggers, long range sporting tang peep sight, and checkered schnabel forearm and pistol grip stock with nickel plated Swiss buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Fine as period customized with 25% blue finish, 40% original casehardened, 85% of the nickel plating, light overall spotting, brown patina on the balance, the rear sight stuck down, mostly crisp checkering, general scrapes and dings, some mild chips, and splices in the bottom of the butt and grip. Mechanically excellent.
