This particular special order rifle is chambered in 500 caliber and is designed for big game hunting. The top of the barrel ahead of the rear sight is marked "W. J. Jeffery & Co. London, England," the underside of the barrel at the breech is marked "IMPORTED BY BSA, MILLBROOK, NY", and the right rear is marked "500". The top of the front receiver ring on the single square bridge, Mauser action is marked "CAL. .500/JEFFERY/FOR/BIG GAME". The trigger guard is gold inlaid with the serial number "40623". Ramped blade front sight with a flip up white dot sight, and the rear sight is a ramped four leaf (three folding, one fixed) with gold inlaid sighting lines and yardage markings of "50", "100", "150" and "200". The serial number is gold inlaid on the trigger guard, and the hinged floor plate is marked "CALIBER/500J". There is a sling swivel base mounted on the underside of the barrel. Blue finish, fire blue extractor, and mounted with a fancy nicely figured one piece multi-point checkered pistol grip stock with a solid Decelerator recoil pad, sling swivel base and silver initial oval inscribed "J.W." According to the consignor, it was built the mid-1990s when the company was still located in London for a very well known professional hunter from Zimbabwet, whose initials are on the stock. Weight could never get an export license from the UK to bring it into Zimbabwe due to the UK's embargo on arms sales to the African nation. As a result, other than a few trips to the range to adjust the sights when he was in the UK, it sat unfired in the maker's vault for almost 15 years. Comes with a leather bound hardcase with leather straps and handle, brass corner protectors and wine colored interior with a leather W.J. Jeffery & Co. label affixed to the inside of the lid. In the case is a leather sling with quick release swivels, a cleaning rod, a leather pouch containing cleaning rod attachments, two wooden handled screwdrivers and a W.J. Jeffery marked nickel oiler.
|Condition||Excellent with 99% original blue finish remaining. The bolt and extractor show some normal cycling wear. The stock is also excellent with a few minor handling marks and sharp checkering. The case is very good with white residue from what appears to be a cleaner and excellent lining. All of the accessories are excellent.|
