The accompanying factory letter states it had an octagon barrel in .45-90 caliber, set trigger, Lyman front sight and checkered pistol grip stock when it was received in the warehouse on October 5, 1892 and shipped the same day. The barrel has dovetail blade and elevation adjustable sights, two-line address ahead of the rear sight and "45-90 W.C.F." at the breech. The upper tang has "-MODEL 1886-," and the lower tang has the two-line patent date followed by the serial number. The barrel, magazine and bolt are blue, and the remaining surfaces are casehardened. Mounted on highly figured, checkered forearm and pistol grip stock featuring an ebony insert on the grip cap. The left side of the lower tang is marked "435 XX," and the number "435" is repeated on the upper tang stock cut-out.
Very fine as professionally restored. The rifle retains 99% plus of the blue finish and case colors showing the slightest handing marks. The very fine refinished wood shows some scattered minor handling marks and crisp checkering overall. Mechanically excellent.
