Description:

Manufactured in 1944 by Richard Herder of Solingen, all five bayonets are virtually identical in configuration, with blued steel construction, 15 1/4 inch overall length and 10 inch blades with a "H" prefix serial number and "clc44" Waffenamt code, ribbed brown grip, "WaA519" on the pommel and a blued sheath with matching serial number. The overall condition of the blades well exceeds typical field-captured blades, and the close proximity of some of the serial numbers H5124, H5194, H4890, H4899, H5374 (#3 and #4 being a mere 9 digits apart) suggests that the entire lot was captured as a group, possibly from a German Army depot or the original production facility in Solingen. The included capture paper, made out to a Stephen Kozacik by a Lieutenant of Company I, 398th Infantry Regiment, 100th Infantry Division in September of 1945, lists "Jerry bayonets", and in accordance with similar documents provides no specific insight into the where or when of their capture.

Rating Definition:

Excellent plus overall. All five bayonets are near mint, as issued, with a minimum of sheath contact wear on the blades, typical late-war machining and mild handling marks on the hilts. The sheaths are excellent, with some light scratches. An excellent set of documented war trophy bayonets. Writer cannot recall ever seeing an exceptional documented set of 98K bayonets such as these!
