Produced from 1970 to 1983, this pistol was manufactured in 1981. The factory letter states that it "was a sample and display piece kept by the Colt factory" and to be placed in the archives. Features fixed sights, serrated spur hammer and trigger with a serrated back strap grip extension, grip and thumb safety, serrated slide and smooth rosewood grips with Custom Shop coat-of-arms medallion inlays on both sides. The left side of the slide is marked, "Houston Police Department Special Edition" in a box surrounded by gold etched scrollwork with a similar gold etched Houston Police Department badge marked "1980" to the rear of the slide serrations. The right side of the slide shows the image of a gold etched patrol car against the background of a city etched in the original blue. This is followed by the image of the balanced scales of justice surrounded by gold etched scrollwork and the circular gold etched city seal of Houston to the rear of the slide serrations. Complete with factory letter, papers/manual, yellow warning hanging tag, original Colt woodgrain box with a Colt Custom Gun Shop end label numbered to the gun and packing list stating the order date as 1981. Near new retaining 99% plus original finish. The grips are also near new. The box is in very good condition with typical minor edge and flap wear. An excellent all around conditioned pistol with great provenance for the collector.
