Description:

Standard markings and features. "1889" dated cartouche. A distinctive Rice trowel bayonet is included. Period sources note that the large blade was intimidating and decently effective compared to other contemporary bayonets. It also doubled as an entrenching tool or as a trowel for building huts. The board responsible for considering them initially thought they would end up replacing all other types of bayonets, but they were eventually abandoned instead.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 97% plus of the original blue finish and case colors. The stock is very fine other than the deep dents by the rear lock bolt. Both the metal and wood have general minor handling and storage marks. The bayonet has strong blue on the socket and mottled gray and brown patina on the blade. Mechanically excellent.
