Description:

This rifle is early enough to have been used on the Great Plains before the Battle of Little Bighorn. While Custer's men were armed with carbines, some of the men on Reno Hill were armed with Model 1873 rifles. It was manufactured around 1874 with standard markings and features including the correct "ESA" cartouche without a date. A "US" marked, blued bayonet with steel scabbard and New Jersey frog are included.

Rating Definition:

Very good with traces of original blue finish, subtle case colors, and otherwise brown and gray patina and light oxidation/pitting. The lightly sanded and re-oiled stock is good with a repair and cracks in the butt, hairline crack at the tail of the lock, and minor scratches and dents. The accessories are also very good with mild oxidation overall. The leather is aged but relatively lightly worn. Mechanically excellent.
