Unique Documented Cole Agee Master Catte brand Engraved Alonzo Crull Converted Colt Model 1877 .22 Caliber Single Action Target Revolver with Jink Howard Letter

Originally manufactured by Colt in 1884 as a Model 1877 double action revolver, it was subsequently converted to a .22 Rimfire single action revolver by Indiana Gunsmith Alonzo Crull and embellished with a catte brand engraving attributed to famed Texan Master Engraver Cole Agee in the 20th century. Crull's conversion has essentially transformed this Model 1877 into a smaller version of Colt's famed Single Action Army revolver. This includes modifying the grip frame to a squared off single action design. A textured solid barrel rib and target sights have been added. Crull signed his work on the left side of the barrel: "ALONZO CRULL/WABASH IND-." This revolver also features fabulous near full coverage cattle brand and floral scroll engraving on a punch dot background. This motif was an extremely rare and highly desirable pattern developed in the late 1940s that depicted all the of more prominent and historic Texas cattle brand used in the 1880s and early 1900s. Jink Howard, the author of the book "Cole Agee, Texas Engraver," attributes the engraving on this revolver to Master Engraver Cole Agee in an accompanying signed letter dated September 26, 2013. Jink's book is included. The left side of the frame has Colt's three-line patent dates marking. The revolver is fully nickel with evidence that at least several components were once gilded. The walnut grips have full floral engraved silver panels.

ConditionFine as professionally custom modified and embellished (see above). The revolver retains 95% of the nickel plating showing some light flaking and blistering. Scattered traces of gold remains. The grips fine with a series of chips missing near the bottom (left side).
