Description:

The factory letter confirms this is one of only 94 Texas Ranger Special Edition revolvers manufactured, lists the configuration, and notes that is chemically etched with "TEXAS RANGERS" in block letters down the back strap and inlaid with a flush silver "10" on the heel. It was shipped to McBride's Guns, Inc. in Austin, Texas, on March 24, 1984. Aside from the special edition markings, it is standard. The grips were accidentally numbered to one serial number earlier. Also included is a tooled holster for a small pistol or revolver marked "JOAQUIN JACKSON/TEXAS RANGERS" in a circle around a star marked "SGT." A letter from H. Joaquin Jackson dated 07/18/90 indicates this revolver was purchased by him while he was stationed in Uvalde, Texas, as part of Company D. When the revolvers were sold to the Rangers, they were issued in order of seniority, and he was tied for 9th. By the time of the letter, he was the senior ranger. Another documents about the sale of the revolver is with lot [CYF6-72]. Jackson's career, especially its end, is discussed in "The Twilight of the Texas Rangers" by Robert Draper in "Texas Monthly February 1994" (copy included). He is pictured on the cover and within the article. The imagery of him as an iconic Ranger on the cover and within the article helped make him a living legend. Though his nearly 30 year career was filled with adventures notable enough to do so on its own. He influenced the portrayal of the Rangers in popular culture: he played a sheriff in "The Good Old Boys" (1996) and "Palo Pinto Gold" (2008), the role of a retired ranger named Jackson in "Wild Horses" (2015) along side his friend Robert Duvall, and also appeared in television mini-series. Jeff Bridges kept Jackson with him on set to help him with his role as a ranger in "Hell or High Water" (2016). He was also on the board of directors of the National Rifle Association.

Rating Definition:

Excellent plus with light handling and storage marks and slight cylinder drag lines. The holster has a hole at the top but otherwise has only mild wear. This is a very rare Colt Single Action Army variation that is almost never seen on the open market. That, combined with the fact that this revolver belonged to the most famous Texas Ranger in recent memory, is sure to make this an excellent addition to any Colt, Texan, or law enforcement collection. In 1984, these revolvers were only sold to the Texas Rangers, and most likely still remain in their possession.
