Description:

The Ordnance Department purchased 43,000 5th Model Burnside carbines during 1863-64 to arm cavalry units. Many saw hard use during the Civil War. It has standard 5th Model markings, including a script "RKW" cartouche on the left of the wrist and matching serial numbers.

Rating Definition:

Excellent overall with 95% plus vivid original case colors, 90% original bright blue finish on the lever and breech, 85% original blue on the barrel, light flaking on the upper and lower tang, and scattered scratches. The wood has some scrapes and dings, a crisp cartouche, and nearly all of the dark oil finish. Mechanically excellent.
