Description:

47,115 Model 1855 rifle-muskets were manufactured at Springfield Armory between 1857 and 1861, and another 12,158 were produced at Harpers Ferry. They were one of the primary infantry arms for both the North and South in the Civil War and were almost always used with traditional percussion caps since the Maynard tape primers were found to be unreliable. It has the standard later production markings and features.

Rating Definition:

Very good with fairly bright surfaces mixed with brown patina, light pitting and oxidation, and various minor marks and scratches. The refinished stock has scattered dings and scrapes and no visible cartouches. It has a replaced nipple with exposed threads and is mechanically fine. A solid representative example of a much sought after variation of U.S. Rifle-Musket.
