Manufactured in 1880. The accompanying factory letter (photocopy) lists this revolver with a 2 1/2 inch barrel in .38 caliber and type of stocks not listed when it was shipped to Hartley & Graham, New York City on July 10, 1880. The top of the barrel is marked with the two-line address, the left side has the scarce etched panel "COLT. D.A. 38," and the left side of the frame is marked with the three line, three patent dates. Matching serial numbers are on the frame, cylinder and both grip straps.
Very good. The revolver retains 25% original blue finish and traces of original case colors in the protected areas with the balance a mix of smooth brown and gray patinas. There is some cold blue touch up and file-like marks on the back strap. The etched panel is legible. The grip is also very good showing some high edge wear, some minor dings and crisp checkering overall. Mechanically fine.
