Description:

The accompanying factory letter lists this rifle with a 26 inch half octagon barrel in .38-56 caliber (currently a 28 inch full octagon barrel in desirable .45-70 caliber), pistol grip stock, half magazine, hard rubber buttplate and takedown configuration. It is fitted with globe front, Lyman folding two leaf rear and receiver sights. The top barrel flat is stamped with the two-line address/patent dates marking ahead of the rear sight and "45-70" at the breech. The top of the receiver is marked "MARLIN SAFETY," and the upper tang is marked "MODEL/1895." The serial number is marked on the underside of the frame. Mounted on a checkered forearm and pistol grip stock, fitted with a checkered Marlin hard rubber buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as rebarreled (see above). The barrel and magazine retain 95% original blue finish with thinning on the balance. The takedown collar, receiver, hammer and lever retain 95% vivid original case colors showing limited minor pitting. The wood is fine showing some minor dings and scratches and recut checkering with most of the finish remaining. Mechanically excellent.
