Extremely Rare Documented Texas Shipped Silver Plated Factory Engraved Colt Bisley Model Single Action Army Revolver with Factory Letter

Manufactured in 1903. On page 266-67 of "The Book of Colt Firearms" author R.L Wilson notes: "Engraved Bisley revolvers are very rare, and Colt factory records indicate that less than 60 were made". Wilson further notes that Bisley revolvers with silver-plated finishes are extremely rare and that silver plating was almost exclusively restricted to engraved guns. Pearl grips are also rare on Bisley Model revolvers. This revolver features floral scroll and punch dot engraving are on the barrel, cylinder flats and frame. There is a star burst on the upper sides of the frame ahead of the cylinder, a shell pattern on the recoil shield and loading gate and a zigzag line and dot pattern on the ejector rod housing, top strap, trigger guard and back strap. Standard factory markings and matching serial numbers, silver finish with blue trigger and screw heads, and casehardened hammer. Fitted with smooth pearl grips. The accompanying factory letter verifies the caliber, barrel length, silver finish, pearl grips, factory engraving and that it was sold to Walter Tips Co in Austin, Texas and shipped as 1 to J.A. Schkade, address unknown on February 28, 1903.

ConditionVery fine with 98% period replated silver plating remaining, showing areas that have darkened with age. 99% original bright case colors remain on the hammer and the trigger retains 95% of the bright niter blue finish. The grips are also very fine with a couple of minor nicks. The markings and engraving are crisp and clear. The action is excellent. A very attractive example of an extremely rare and fully documented factory engraved silver-plated Colt Bisley Model Revolver with pearl grips
