Historic Smith & Wesson .38 Military & Police Model of 1905 4th Change Target Double Action Revolver with Steer Head Carved Pearl Grips Attributed to Hollywood Actor Gilbert Roland

Manufactured from 1915-42 with this example attributed to Mexican and American film star Gilbert Roland (1905-1994) whose film and TV acting career spanned seven decades. The twice Golden Globe Award nominated actor is best known for his staring role in the TV serial "The Cisco Kid." An accompanying signed letter from Roland's daughter, Larinda Roland, identities this revolver by serial number as once belonging to Gilbert Roland, was used by Roland in several movies, was "used by his good friend Robert Mitchum" and is seen in in the movie "Bandido" (1956). In "Bandido," Roland played the role of revolutionary Colonel Escobar along side the film's star Robert Mitchum. Larinda Roland received this revolver after her father's death in 1994. This revolver has several aftermarket features such as near full coverage floral scroll engraving, gold plating, a vent rib, pearl grips with the right panel featuring a relief carved steer head with gold accents and painted eyes and jeweled hammer and trigger sides and ejector. The cylinder and barrel are numbered to the gun. Provenance: Gillespie collection.

ConditionFine as period custom embellished. The revolver retains 70% of the gold plating with smooth gray patina on the balance. The grips are very good with a sizeable surface chip missing from the left panel. The steer head is crisp. Mechanically excellent. A very historic Smith & Wesson revolver!
