Excellent Rare Smith & Wesson .38/44 Outdoorsman Post-World War II Transitional Double Action Target Revolver with Gold Box

Shipped in November 1946, this is one of approximately 2,000 produced with a pre-war style long action. It also has standard S&W markings, importer marking on the butt, matching assembly numbers on the yoke and crane, right grip panel numbered "71829" and matching serial numbers on the butt, ejector shroud and cylinder. The factory .38/44 Outdoorsman gold box is un-number and has correct barrel length and finish on the short ends. Provenance: Frank Staig collection.

ConditionExcellent. The revolver retains 99% original blue finish showing slight loss at the muzzle, a few minor handling marks and a cylinder drag line. Nearly all original case colors remain on the hammer and trigger. The grips are also excellent with limited minor handling marks and crisp checkering overall. Mechanically excellent. The box is fine showing minor edge wear.
