This commercially finished pistol is devoid of both a serial number and factory inspection and proofmarks on the frame. The U.S. Army marked slide is numbered "258076" under the firing pin stop placing its date of manufacture in 1918. Colt made pistols like this example for production sample, for display or for replacement to the government for lost pistols. Fixed round blade front and notch rear sights on the slide with the two-line/two-block address and patent marking on the left side, Rampant Colt behind the serrations, and "MODEL OF 1911. U.S. ARMY" marking on the right side of the slide. The right side of the frame is stamped "GOVERNMENT MODEL" with no visible acceptance or inspection marks. The top of the barrel chamber is stamped "P/H" and the lug is stamped with a small "J" on the left side. With a long trigger, wide checkered hammer, short grip safety, and smooth flat mainspring housing with lanyard loop. With checkered double diamond grips and unmarked two tone blue magazine.
