Description:

WWII configuration Springfield Armory M1C Sniper Rifle that was manufactured in 1945. This rifle has a blued Lyman M82 Telescopic Sight with tapered post reticle and rubber eyepiece, blued Griffin & Howe scope mount serial numbered "3346637", milled "SA" M2 flash hider, russet leather K-Line cheek pad and WWII M1 web sling. The barrel is dated "3 SA 3 45", has a bright chamber face and does not have a chromed gas port. The rear sight is the correct WWII "lock bar" configuration. The left side of the stock is stamped with a "S.A./N.F.R." boxed final inspection mark followed by an Ordnance Corps, crossed cannon, escutcheon. An encircled serif "P" proofmark is stamped on the inside of the pistol grip. The side of the receiver bracket is hand-stamped with the rifle serial number: "351 6689" with the round top "3" utilized by Springfield Armory. The three bracket screws are double staked on the inside of the receiver and there is no indication that the bracket was ever removed from the receiver. The bolt, operating rod, and trigger group are all "SA" marked and appear to be correct for this rifle. The operating rod does not have the post-WWII relief cut. The lower barrel band has the post war split "roll" pin. The receiver, barrel and other components have the dark, gray-green, parkerized finish utilized by Springfield Armory during WWII. Nearly all of the approximately 7,900 M1C rifles manufactured between December 1944 and December 1945 were subsequently overhauled during the Korean War. Most of these rifles were modified with post-WWII components, rebarreled and restocked. M1C rifles that remain in the original WWII configuration are scarce. This rifle is accompanied by a Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) "Certificate of Authenticity" dated July 29, 2015, and a CMP box.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as arsenal rebuilt. This rifle has the correct WWII components and retains nearly 90% of the parkerized finish. The receiver, bolt and operating rod show light finish wear on the high points. The M82 Telescopic Sight is in excellent condition and retains 95% of the original blue finish with clear optics. The scope mount and rings have 95% of the original blue finish intact. The stock and handguard are in very fine to excellent condition with crisp proof and final inspection marks. Wear is limited to a few very minor dents and storage marks. The K-Line cheekpiece is in excellent condition with bright russet leather. This is a very fine example of a scarce WWII configuration Springfield M1C Sniper Rifle.
