An evolution of the Mauser 1871 Infantry Rifle, the 71/84 integrates an under-barrel tube magazine, and represents an important developmental step towards the Gewehr 98 rifle. Blade and three-leaf folding ladder sights, with the barrel marked "crown/F.W." and "crown/SPANDAU" on the chamber flats, and the receiver marked "I.G. Mod. 71/84." on the left and "1888." on the right. Smooth straight grip stock, with sling swivels and a flat buttplate. With a Coulaux (Klingenthal) bayonet, 23 1/4 inches overall, 18 1/4 inch single fuller blade, "20.R.6.73." marked guard, brass hilt and a leather sheath.

Very fine. The blued components show 90% plus high polish finish, with a bit of light edge wear, a few areas of spotting and some light handling marks overall, with some extensive rough corrosion visible on the trigger guard, and the bright areas showing a few patches of shallow pitting. The stock is very fine with some scuffing on the right side of the butt and left side of the wrist, along with some mild dings and wear overall. The fair bayonet has scattered pitting, and the sheath shows some scuffs and wear. Mechanically excellent.
