Description:

Manufactured in 1963, this second generation Colt Single Action Army revolver was subsequently engraved by Master Engraver Joseph Condon, sometimes referred to as the "Engraver to The Stars". Condon worked out of Las Vegas, Nevada and custom engraved guns for legends like Elvis Presley, Jerry Lewis, Buddy Hackett and Frank Sinatra. This particular revolver was reportedly engraved for the world famous entertainer Sammy Davis Jr. Davis of course was a member of the famous 1960s "Rat Pack" along with his friend Frank Sinatra and members Dean Martin, Joey Bishop and Peter Lawford. Sammy Davis Jr. was a singer, musician, comedian and actor. Davis died on May 16, 1990 in Beverly Hills, California at the age of 64 of complications from throat cancer. This revolver bears a full blued finish with gold-plated ejector rod and head, cylinder pin, cylinder release button, trigger, hammer and screws, and features floral pattern scroll engraving on the barrel, cylinder flats, frame, butt and ejector rod housing. The barrel has two gold inlaid bands around the muzzle and a single gold band at the breech with gold scroll accents coming off both barrel bands flowing onto the top of the barrel. The right side of the front sight has a gold inlaid wolves head, the left side has a gold inlaid cougars head and the top of the barrel has an engraved plains scene with three gold inlaid Indians on horseback hunting a buffalo. The top strap, front portion of the frame, cylinder flats and back strap have gold inlaid scroll accents. The four card deck suits (clubs, hearts, diamonds and spades) are gold inlaid, alternating three times around the rear of the cylinder. The lower sides of the frame and recoil shields have a gold inlaid wire border. There is a gold inlaid Indians head on the left recoil shield, a gold inlaid buffalo head on the loading gate, a gold inlaid steer skull on the top of the back strap and a prowling cougar on the back strap. The bottom of the trigger guard bow is engraved "ENG. BY / J. CONDON" with a gold inlaid border around it. The sides of the hammer are engraved with an eagles head. The revolver is fitted with one-piece grips with scallop border checkering and gold Colt medallions. Complete in a wooden case with French cut gold velvet and cartridge block with 10 dummy 45 Colt cartridges.

Rating Definition:

Near new as Master embellished with only very slight handling marks. There are a few areas on the inner edge of the ejector rod housing, left side of the frame and on the front strap that show some rough casting marks or light pin prick pitting that were not polished out that have been finished over. The grips are near excellent with minor hairline age cracks, mostly on the bottoms, and sharp checkering. A very special, Joe Condon engraved and elaborately gold inlaid Colt Single Action Army revolver reportedly completed for entertainment legend Sammy Davis Jr.
