Approximately 7,500 of these rifles were manufactured by Remington in 1881 to 1884 for the U.S. Navy under contract with inventor James Paris Lee's Lee Arms Co. It has a bayonet stud/blade front sight, rear sight graduated out to 900 yards, "P/WMF/anchor" on the left at the breech, "HN." inspection marks, "THE LEE ARMS CO. BRIDGEPORT CONN. U.S.A./PATENTED NOV. 4TH 1879" on the top of the receiver, smooth side magazine, "38" marked on top of the comb, slotted cleaning rod, and leather sling. Provenance: Bruce Canfield collection.

Rating Definition:

Very good with traces of original finish, mostly smooth brown patina, some patches of mild pitting, and general marks and scratches. The rear sight elevator is absent. The stock is also fine and has slivers absent at the edges by the forend cap, some dents and scratches, small gaps around the buttplate tang, and some minor chipping. Mechanically excellent.
