Description:

Manufactured by C.R. Alsop of Middletown, Connecticut c.1863. The revolver has a 4-inch octagon barrel and six-shot cylinder with distinctive spur trigger frame and offset hammer. The barrel, frame and cylinder have a high polish blue finish. The hammer and loading lever are casehardened. The two piece grips are rosewood with a high polish 'piano' finish. The top barrel flat is roll-stamped: "C.R. ALSOP MIDDLETOWN CONN./PATENTED JULY 17. AUGUST 7. 1860. MAY 14. 1861." in two lines. "C.H. ALSOP. PATENTED/NOV. 26. 1861" is roll-stamped in two lines on the side of the cylinder. The serial number "655" is stamped on the left side of the frame beneath the grip and written in pencil on the inside of both grips. Provenance: Gillespie collection.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The revolver retains 95% of the bright original high polish blue and casehardened finish. Nearly all of the blue is present on the barrel. The frame has minor scratches. The cylinder has some finish loss and light pitting near the patent markings. The loading lever and hammer have nearly all of the vivid case colors. The grips are very fine-excellent and retain 90% plus of the piano varnish. The markings are crisp. The action is tight and functions perfectly. This is an exceptional original example of a scarce C.R. Alsop Pocket Model percussion revolver.
