Manufactured in 1887 as a third model. The barrel has German silver blade and elevation adjustable sights and is marked with the two-line address/patent dates marking and "38 W.C.F." The cartridge elevator is marked "38 CAL." The upper tang has the model marking, and the lower tang has the serial number. The highly figured and checkered pistol grip stock has an ebony grip insert and a crescent buttplate with trapdoor (cleaning rod not included). The lower tang is marked "2883 XXX 38," the stock inlet is marked "2883," and the buttplate has an illegible number.
Very good. The barrel and magazine retain 30% original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina. The remaining metal surfaces retain some areas of original case colors, otherwise a mixed of silver out case colors and smooth gray patina. The revarnished wood is also very good with an illegible name hand marked on the buttstock (right side), some minor pressure dents and scratches and some wear in the overall crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
