Description:

Eckartsau castle was the imperial hunting lodge of the Habsburg Monarchy. Between 1918 and 1919 it was the last residence in Austria of Emperor Karl I and his consort Zita. Both half-skulls feature a 4-point rack, black ink markings on the bone, and are secured to a pair of carved oak-themed hardwood plaques with a set of threaded screws. 1) Roe deer mount, with a 5 1/2 inch span on a 7 1/2 inch x 13 inch plaque with the markings "hofiagden/Eckartsau". 2) Roe deer mount, with a 4 inch span on a 8 1/2 inch x 12 inch plaque, marked "Frhrr Streicher/Wagner/zu/Wisenburg". The Freiherr has not been identified. These trophies have survived traversing the Atlantic, two world wars, and the ravages of time and have been curated over a period of 40 years through descendants of Kaiser Wilhelm II, private collectors, auctions and individuals in Europe.
