Description:

This form of arquebus was used in Japan into the late 19th century but was most prominent prior to the introduction of more modern firearms after the opening of Japan to foreign trade in the 1850s. It has a blade front sig, grooved black rear sight with three holes in the base, silver floral and hare inlays near the breech, raised edges of the barrel flats, and engraved inlays with floral and hare motifs along the stock. The Hare of Inaba is part of the Japanese folklore surrounding the Shinto god Okuninushi, and the "Moon Rabbit" has also generated various tales around the world, including in Buddhist traditions.

Rating Definition:

Very good overall with dark patina and mild corrosion of the iron, aged patina on the brass and silver, and mild marks and scratches. The stock has a couple of small chips at the edges of the barrel inlet, light scratches, and some edge wear. Mechanically fine.
