Description:

The lightweight "Baby Carbine" version of the Colt Lightning Magazine Rifles is rare compared to the standard models. This variant is usually a pound lighter than the standard carbines. The factory letter confirms this gun is a "Baby Carbine" and was part of a 10 gun shipment to Colt's London Agency at 14 Pall Mall in London for Rigby & Co. on January 11, 1886. However, it weighs just 6 1/4 pounds (the standard carbine weight) rather than the Baby Carbine weight (Writer believes this to be a factory error, we are offering it as a standard carbine, which it is). It has the barleycorn front sight, notch and folding ladder rear sight graduated out to 900 yards, British proofs and markings, "44 Cal." at the breech, the Rampant Colt on the left ahead of the saddle ring and stud, multi-point checkered slide handle, and smooth buttstock.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 80% plus of the bright original high polish blue finish, 90% of the vibrant original case colors visible on the hammer, some bright wear at the tail of the lower tang, a few small dings, scattered minor scratches, and rub wear from the saddle ring. The wood is fine with crisp checkering, a series of light dings along the left side of the butt, and mild scrapes. Mechanically excellent.
