Description:

This is a fine example of an all matching WWII British Enfield No. 4 MK 1(T) sniper rifle dated "1944" that is fitted with a No. 32 MKII scope and mount. These rifles were the standard WWII British sniper rifle used until the early 1960s when it was replaced by the Enforcer and L42 sniper rifles. The left side of the buttsocket is marked "M47C/ENGLAND/1944/F30863/ENGLAND/TR". It has a black wartime finish with a walnut buttstock, forend and handguards. The comb of the stock is fitted with a oak/walnut cheekpiece held on with two wood screws. It has the standard blade front sight with a "No 7" marked rear sight. The buttstock has the correct British acceptance proofs under the grip area along with a slightly offset "S51" stamping behind the pistol grip area indicating conversion by H&H. The top of the wrist is stamped with serial number "15597", which correspond to the attached sniper scope. The underside of the forend is stamped with several British acceptance proofs followed by serial number "30863F". It is currently fitted with a No. 32 MKII sniper scope that is marked "TEL. SIG/No.32 Mk.II/O.S. 1650A/1944 No.15597", and it has the standard post and cross-hair reticle pattern and is fitted in an original rough cast scope mount that is stamped "JC" followed by "F30863". The top and bottom half of the scope rings are stamped "308" and "309" respectively. It has a matching bolt assembly and the bolt head is stamped with a "0". This sniper rifle is complete with one original 10-round box magazine.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 75% of the arsenal blue finish overall with edge and high spot wear with blue loss on the magazine box, with thinning on the barrel bands and bolt handle. The stock and handguards are all in fine condition with a nice matching dark brown color overall indicating they have been together for a long time. The markings on the wood components are clear and the fore stock shows wear and handling marks from being used in the field, with some rougher areas on the left side by the buttsocket. The scope retains 85% of its original blued finish, that unfortunately is starting to show some light rust developing on the center and rear end of the scope (due to incorrect storage) the optics are clear and the W&E knobs work correctly. As noted this is an all matching 1944 dated sniper rifle that just needs a little TLC (on the scope tube) to improve its condition.
